Mavericks on a Role............

17th November 2010

After a shaky start to the season the Mavericks have hit top form in the run up to the Christmas break.  The latest victory saw the all stars take apart the Central Bedfordshire Badgers on a bleak day in down town Luton.  Having survived 2 drive by shootings, a bus hyjacking and a potentially lethal exposure to NUTS magazine the boys were pleased to arrive safe and sound.  The day had started badly with only 9 Mavericks making it out of bed and Joe Horlock falling foul of the dentist chair.  He has been quick to reassure that it was the genuine affair rather than the one made famous by Sherringham, Gascoigne and the rest back in the day......

Skipper Hollywood was unimpressed and was seen trying to encourage the dinner lady to board the bus in an atttempt to make up numbers! Graham Webb (surely a future Maverick target) declined a game although he seemed to take a fairly heavy liking to the dinner lady after Hollywoods advances were declined.....
Anyway we digress, the Mavericks managed to get a full compliment and made their way to the back of a 45 minute jam on the M25.  Ashley Ward slipped into a deep coma, Ben Young turned into William Wallance reciting battle cries from Braveheart to gee the flagging spirits of the boys and Luke Young sought some intelligent conversation so headed towards the gaffa at the front of the bus.

The game was less effort to win than getting to the game itself.  Goals from Umang Patel(3), Tom Fitzgerald and Ben Young saw the  Mavericks take a comfortable 5-0 score line back to Estadio Da Luz.  The game did see a few unsavory incidents, Ben Young will appear in Luton Magistrates Court after manhandling (repeatedly) a very small boy on the pitch, and Luke Rutherford will return with him to try and find the remaining parts of his shin which Rude Boy decided to detach from the bottom half of his leg.
The boys return to action on Wednesday with an away trip to the Surrey University Scorpions at the Pleasure Dome.  Go the Mavs!!!!
