Mavericks Breeze Past Vipers

6th October 2010

The Mavericks kicked off the new campaign with an impressive away performance against the NWKC Vipers today at the snake pit.  As with all performances the Mavericks didn't waste time or energy with the mundane task of defending, tracking back or tackling, instead they went for all out attack.

Having taken an early lead they were pegged back and then fell behind to the vipers who had controlled the game for a spell of about 20 minutes. The Mavericks were level when the entire Viper team slipped over on an Alec Hollywood sweat patch leaving Ryan Palmer the freedom of the box to slip his shot under the keeper.

The Mavericks pulled away, opening up a 5-2 lead at the break after Charlie Crudden eventually remember he was playing football and not basketball, avoided the temptation to handle the ball and slipped in an unstoppable 2 yard drive in to an open net. Ashley Ward was one of four debutantes given the opportunity to play for the all stars and at times looked nervous about the proposition, he managed to score just before the break with a piece of solo magic which justified his big money move from the Bromley Bobcats in the summer.

The second half was much of the same as Umang "the baby bodybuilder" Patel and Charlie "4 hands Crudden" added to the tally.  The game was completed when Ryan Palmer lobbed the keeper from the half way as he couldn't be bothered to run up the other end to score...... It was good to welcome the old guard back for another season as well as the new faces that will help to further enhance the Maverick brand.  We look forward to the visit of the Reigate Reindeers next Wednesday when they will be thrashed and sent back home as broken men.  "Go the Mavericks"
